Some families know a great deal about their roots;
others know very little. This site is an attempt to record what I've learned about our family history. In these modern times,
families tend to be scattered all over the country, if not the world. One of the goals of this web site is to help our family
stay connected even though we live far apart.
Yep this is me, Kathy KIRKBY CRAWFORD and
I've been working on my 'lines' for over twenty years. I finally completed two of them and received certificates proving
my United Empire Loyalist lineages. Now I'm working on my DUNHAM line!
I'm a proud army "brat" and growing up lived on several Canadian
military bases along with my brother John and sister Joni. My parents met while my mother MaryLou GREEN was visiting her brother Donald and his wife Joyce in Camp Borden. Uncle Donald just happened to be my fathers boss! One
thing led to another....and you guessed it, they married. They've been happily married for over 52 years!!!
Mom is from Dunnville, Ontario and Dad Wes KIRKBY, is from Prescott, Ontario. Both small towns, and some distance from each other. I was born in Barrie, Ontario and
as I said lived on several military bases. I met my future husband (ex), Wayne CRAWFORD when we lived in
CFB Petawawa, Ontario where he was stationed. Yep, I married military. Wayne was from St. Catharines, Ontario and when
he was released from the Forces we relocated to his home town which is about an hours drive from my Mom's home town.
After living in St. Catharines for 12 years we moved on to Niagara Falls, Ontario and to the house that I've now been in for
over twenty years. When we moved here I noticed that the name GREEN was quite common and upon
digging a little further made some really exciting discoveries. Imagine finding out that my ggggggrandfather was Charles
GREEN and that he was a United Empire Loyalist from New Jersey and that he and his pregant wife had travelled
here with two of their small children (leaving three behind) over mountains, through forests and crossing the Niagara River
coming to the BENDER farm where a week after arriving my ggggggrandmother Rebecca SCRITCHFIELD
had their daughter Rebecca GREEN who just happened to be the first white child born on the settlement.
Imagine also, finding out that when Charles GREEN received his grant of Crown land it just happens to be
right where I'm living now!!!! and the public school my daughter attended for 9 years is right in his back yard!
Needless to say, this really piqued my curiosity and my addiction
began. This is a work in progress, so please contact me if you have any information that might help round out the picture.
I have tried to be as accurate as possible but mistakes do happen so please if something is incorrect let me know.
